Isra University organizes International Symposium on Higher Education Initiatives in Entrepreneurship and Career Services

Isra University and Ball State University USA organized two days international symposium on higher education initiatives in entrepreneurship and career services at Movenpick Hotel, Karachi. The symposium opening was held on 27 July, 2016. The notable personalities from academia, government and corporate sector attended the event. The program was comprised of keynote speeches, thematic panel sessions and group activities on challenges of entrepreneurship and career services at universities in Pakistan. In the US Department of State funded program the main participants were from universities that are located in KPK, Sukkur, Gilgit Balitistan and Balochistan. The first day symposium started with speeches of Prof. Dr. Hameedullah Kazi Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Ghulam Qadir Kazi Vice Chancellor Isra University, AJ Jagelski Cultural Attaché US Consulate Karachi, Dr.Kenneth Holland and Dr. Julie Barker from Ball State University, USA. The experts highlighted the significance and challenges of entrepreneurship in Pakistan and the panel discussions led to effective strategies to meet those challenges.

The other part of the event was comprises of panel sessions that were headed by Dr.Javeid Iqbal VC University of Balochistan. Dr. Abdul Raheem VC University of Science and Technology Bannu, Dr. Muhammad Asif Khan VC Korakoram International University, Dr. Ghulam Qadir Kazi VC Isra University, Dr.Hameedullah Kazi, Pro VC Isra University and Dr.Kenneth Holland Director Center for International Development Ball State University USA. The experts highlighted core issues of entrepreneurship and career services and suggested that industry and academia may work to gather and communication may be enhanced between them, entrepreneurial activities should address ground issues of community, university may develop curricula that address real issues of local industry, youth especially girls may be encouraged to create innovation in them that is essential for a successful entrepreneurship, the friendly policies may be established that address the issues of getting seed money, business risk and fulfill training gap. At the end Dr.Qamaruddin Mahar concluded the session whereas Zafar Siddiqui, Riaz Shaikh and Faraz Shaikh were host of the program.

On 2nd day keynote speaker was Dr. Kenneth Holland and Julie Lebo their topic was “Empowering and Facilitating Women Entrepreneurs and Job Seekers”. They gave a detailed presentation and emphasized on the role of women on business community and preferred active women representation in work place and that “for a prosperous business community it’s very important that men and women contribute their part their presentation was full of activities and very interactive.

The second keynote speaker of the event Mr. Jim McAtee presented on the topic “Modern Trends in Career Services”. He stated the changing role of career services in the world. He said, “Pakistan is a developing country and for the country to prosper is to strengthen the youth and that is only possible if the youth is provided with career opportunities and we are here to provide it.” He introduced different trends to the audience regarding career services that are prevailing these days. Overall symposium was very successful that rated by distinguished vice chancellors of various universities and notable experts from corporate sector.
